Stanford Students Develop IRL Closed Caption Glass (1)

Aug 15, 2023
TranscribeGlass, a new startup founded by Tom Pritsky and Madhav Lavakare, has developed glasses that can transcribe speech in real-time for deaf people. The glasses use an augmented reality attachment to transcribe words spoken by the person in front of the wearer and present it on the side of the screen to allow the wearer to concentrate on the conversation while still being able to look at the person they're speaking to.
Hold up. Subtitles for the real world? This is a win for positive AI development, no doubt.

The glasses use AI to cleverly ignore surrounding conversations and other noises that could otherwise confuse the transcription. The final model is expected to cost around $95 and can be integrated with any API, including Google Speech, Deepgram, and Microsoft. The startup aims to solve hearing loss and make the product source agnostic and highly accessible.
