Amazon brings new AI-driven features to Thursday Night Football (1)
Amazon's Prime Video is leveling up its NFL "Thursday Night Football" (TNF) experience with a range of AI-driven features. Betsy Riley, a senior coordinating producer at Prime Video, emphasized that the goal isn't just to display numbers but to use data to narrate the game's deeper story. Last year, Amazon introduced features like X-Ray for real-time stats and Rapid Recap for quick highlights. This year, they're adding Defensive Alerts, which predicts blitzes using a red orb around key players.
We have to wonder… AI is being used predictively on the broadcast, which is on a tape delay. If coaches had access to these powerful tools in realtime, how long until AI starts to affect the play calling?
Another feature, Prime Targets, highlights open players with a green orb. The Fourth Down Territory feature will guide viewers on fourth-down decisions, while Field Goal Target Zones will show the probability of successful field goals from different field points. Lastly, Key Plays will use AI to provide fans with in-game highlights and crucial moments. Fans can expect these features to go live on September 14, 2023.
